Spiked Spiced Apple Cider

Fall in most of the country is either a freezing winter or cooler summer in Texas. As the holidays approach, tastes shift to some classics such as hot chocolate and apple cider. If you are a fan of spiced apple cider, then this cocktail is your perfect holiday drink.

Spiked Spiced Apple Cider

The spiked apple cider highball is a simple drink to make. You can serve it hot or cold, and any whiskey will work. The cocktail is easy to adjust for personal taste.

This highball uses three ingredients whiskey, spiced apple cider, and bitters. I am using Balcones True Blue 100 this time. Made from 100% roasted blue corn aged in used barrels and bottled at 100 proof. An easier way to sum it up is this whiskey is fall in a glass!

There is no bad whiskey for this whiskey drink, though. Use a smoked single malt such as Stryker for the perfect campfire drink. Rye will kick up the spiced portion of the cider.

Use more or less whiskey or apple cider until you find what works for you. Use different bitters to see how it changes the cocktail.

Ingredients

  • 2.25 oz whiskey

  • 6 oz spiced apple cider

  • 2 dashes angostura bitters

How to make the spiked spiced apple cider highball

Serve it hot
Add your whiskey and bitters to a mug. Pour the hot cider over the top and stir. Marshmallows make a great garnish. A cinnamon stick would also work.

If you are using the spiced apple cider packet, pour the powder in the mug with the whiskey and bitters. Pour the hot water over the top and stir well to mix the powder.

Serve it cold
Add all ingredients to a glass with ice and stir to mix. If you make the spiced apple cider do that separately. Then add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice, stir to chill, and strain into a glass with ice.
