Red, White, and Blue Whiskey Drink

To celebrate American Independence, here is a red, white, and blue whiskey drink.

This is an adaptation of a vodka recipe. You will need grenadine, blue curacao, and new make whiskey known as white dog or unaged whiskey. Grab the clear whiskey.

It is a sweet highball that layers the colors for a festive look. If you get the cocktail to layer, don’t worry if they dissipate. Once mixed, the drink dark purplish.

While the recipe does not use much whiskey, choose your new make wisely. Before mixes, the primary flavor is the whiskey. I used Still Austin Whiskey Co. New Make. Since the whiskey has not aged, the grains come through, providing a pleasant aroma of baked bread.

Blue curacao is a sweet orange liqueur, so I used sparkling orange water instead of club soda.

Ingredients

• 1 oz grenadine

• 1 oz blue Curacao

• 2 oz new make whiskey

• 3 oz club soda or flavored sparkling water

How to make the red, white, and blue whiskey drink
In a highball glass, add the grenadine, then fill with ice. In a shaker, add the whiskey and club soda and gently mix. To layer slowly, pour over the back of a spoon into the glass. To add the final layer, slowly pour the blue curacao over the back of a spoon, moving it around the top of the glass.

The last layer is tricky. It helps if you use a measuring cup or something with a pour spout.
