Pegu Whiskey Club

The pegu club cocktail is another gin-based drink. While there is nothing wrong with gin, we like whiskey better. The mixture is dated back to the early 1900s and was Burma’s Pegu Club’s signature drink on the Pegu River. Its members senior Briton government, military officials, and prominent businessmen.

The drink includes orange curaçao, lime juice, orange, and angostura bitters. So there are two approaches you can take when choosing a whiskey. You can choose one that will dominate the flavor. Or one that will incorporate into the drink. It highlights the ingredients and provides subtle nuances. We are choosing the latter.

For this gin turned whiskey drink, we are using Bendt No 5. American Blended Whiskey. The makers of this fine blend are in Lewisville, Texas. The whiskey contains a mixture of straight bourbon, rye whiskey, malt whiskey, wheat whiskey, and light whiskey. We do not know the exact percentage breakdown.

The orange shines at the start, but the whiskey contributes to the body. It is light but nuanced with apple, honeycomb, and soft fruit. Careful, though, the lime juice cuts the finish.
