Rye Whiskey Finished in Spanish Sweet Vermouth Barrels

Giant Texas Distillery Rye Whiskey

In early 2023, we at the Texas Whiskey Festival had a bold idea: a Tejas Collaboration with Giant Texas Distillery. We managed to get our hands on three Spanish Sweet Vermouth barrels and knew Giant’s Rye would be perfect for an experiment. The goal? A Manhattan in a bottle. The result? Not exactly what we expected—but even better.

One barrel, in particular, took us all by surprise. It transformed into something beautifully unrecognizable—a riddle for even the most seasoned palates. The result? A rich, leathery fruit note that practically begs to be paired with a fine cigar. This single barrel rye whiskey, aged for 10 months in a Sweet Spanish Vermouth barrel, is something special.

The other two barrels, while similar in flavor, each brought something different to the table—one slightly sweeter with a stronger vermouth presence. Combined, they create a beautifully balanced blend of rye spice and vermouth sweetness. This blend of 3 and 4-year-old rye whiskey aged 10 months in Spanish Sweet Vermouth Barrels is something you don't want to miss.

Join us on September 21, 2024, at Giant Texas Distillery’s tasting room starting at 11 a.m., where you can get your hands on both of these 750 ml bottles. I’ll be onsite to hang out, sip some whiskey, and have a great time. See you there!
