Teetotaler Cocktail

It is a bit ironic, but not surprising to have a cocktail named after the practice of alcohol abstinence. The Teetotaler cocktail named after teetotalism came about…who knows.

From Wikipedia. The movement was first started in the early 19th century in Preston England. The Preston Temperance Society founded in 1833 by Joseph Livesey. He became a leader of the temperance movement and the author of The Pledge: “We agree to abstain from all liquors of an intoxicating quality whether ale, porter, wine or ardent spirits, except as medicine.” We are at a loss to why someone would take this pledge, but enough people did it was a movement.

The cocktail itself drinks light and easy. The whiskey is not overpowering creating a drink anyone, even if you don’t like bourbon, can enjoy.

We chose Still Austin Whiskey Co. Bourbon. The recently released bourbon has been a long time in the making. We are not talking about just the aging process. Still Austin Whiskey Co. is the first legal whiskey distillery inside the Austin City limits. Saying the founders jumped through hoops to open is an understatement. Through perseverance and determination, they have finally released their high rye bourbon. The team focuses on sustainability by working with local farmers creating an ecosystem.

The Teetotaler cocktail is a ginger infused ice tea. A good cocktail to enjoy on a hot day. The ginger ale adds a refreshing spark that compliments the orange bitters.
