In early 2023, I approached Giant Texas Distillery to do a Tejas Collaboration. I had found three Spanish Sweet Vermouth barrels. I thought Giant’s Rye, aged in a sweet vermouth barrel, would give a Manhattan in a bottle vibe. It is not exactly what we got, but damn they are tasty.
One barrel was uniquely, happily, unrecognizable. The samples I shared stumped some of the best palates I know on the type of whiskey. Delicious with leathery fruit notes - perfect pairing for a good cigar. So this single barrel of rye whiskey aged 10 months in the Sweet Spanish Vermouth Barrel.
The other two barrels were similar in flavor, one slightly sweeter with more vermouth presence. Combined, they are a balance of rye spice and vermouth sweetness. A blend of 3 and 4-year-old rye whiskey aged 10 months in Spanish Sweet Vermouth Barrels.
Both 750 ml bottles will be available at Giant Texas Distillery’s tasting room starting at 11 a.m. on 9/21/24.
I’ll be onsite to hang out, drink whiskey, and have some fun.
Cheers,
Jake
